Yung6ix needs a total system overhaul

Nigerian hip hop artiste Yung6ix is a young man many remember for his contribution on MI Abaga’s 2012 Illegal Music 2 mixtape. He came through on that Export track; spitting hard, gritty bars. He was true, so real and so prospective. But fast forward a few years and it’s been nothing exactly spectacular from him save for several attempts to stay in the news on the back of controversies and social media tantrums.

While this is understandable given the nature of show business and the need for occasional controversies, Yung6ix needs to lay low for a bit.

He has made so much noise it is time for him to actually make music or leave the scene once and for all and maybe try out something around the scope of fashion or music production and all that.

Yung6ix needs a total system overhaul article on rapper Yung6ix and his timeline of controversies.

Born Onome Onokohohwomo, Yung6ix is fairly gifted and there’s no disputing this. He is gifted but nowhere near being a special rapper. He is ordinary when you peg him on same line with the likes of Jesse Jagz, Vector, Mode 9, Godwon, Sauce Kid, Reminisce and MI Abaga. Again, this is understandable given we can't compare an ordinary artiste to greats.

There are several things wrong with his music and delivery, issues he is yet to fully resolve. Hence, he ought to be busy with these matters in order to be great.

For starters, the young man needs to better his pronunciations (rid them of the laughable ‘H’ factor) and improve his rhyming.

Then he needs to pick his battles rightly. He also needs a total overhaul as per his A&R team. Lastly, he can use an amazing set of social media handlers so that they help him carve a precise image that embodies showmanship, bravura and style. Currently, his fashion sense isn't bad.

In 2015, he came close to reinventing himself musically with two decent tracks that could have been better anyway. He had Blessings featuring Oritsefemi and For Example featuring Stonebwoy, two impressive records that stick out like a hard dick in all of his catalogue till date.

The 27-year-old has also impressed here and there during freestyle sessions, and with this comes to mind his delivery at the 2015 Hennessey Artistry Cypher right there in the Beat FM studios in Ikoyi, Lagos with industry heavyweights Olisa Adibua and Douglas Jekan officiating the process.

He is still emerging and there’s so much he can achieve if he realizes early enough that though controversy is important in this line of business, everything must come in moderation.

If he realizes this and focuses on pressing matters to improve his craft rather than putting the cart before the horse, then it’s safe to say he stands a great chance.

In July 2016, he had a bit of a squabble with Cynthia Morgan after the latter accused him of releasing an unfinished collaboration they had done together.

Yung6ix and Cynthia Morgan fall out in July 2016.

Following her rant, he took to Twitter and replied thus:

In the past, he’s fallen out with B-Red of HKN, veteran hip hop artiste Cyrus The Virus and a few others that didn’t quite make the headlines.

Similarly, in August 2016 he fell out with singer P.R.E. as the latter was promoting a new collaboration they had done together.

On Sunday, August 21, 2016, Yung6ix took to Instagram and stated that the singer made threats to his life and vandalized his properties earlier, then he added that he wanted compensation.

Yung6ix calls out singer P.R.E. for allegedly making attempt on his life in August, 2016.

But there’s something common in this case as well as Cynthia Morgan's – there’s been a new song which needs promoting. So clearly, it’s more about the young man running his music with the wrong set of publicists or a case of him being unruly as a person.

In the end; nobody wins, not Yung6ix, not his team and not the collaborators with whom he has orchestrated these weak media stunts.

This is why he needs to be more about the music than he is about pushing a controversial image for himself.

He who has ear let him hear.
