Chinedu Linus, a final year student of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) has lost his life after he confronted some gunmen on Friday, October 6. The death of the young man touched the students of people in Abakaliki who considered it an unfortunate incident.
ASP Loveth Odah, the spokesperson of the police command in Ebonyi reacted to the news. Linus was said to have been robbed and had engaged the robbers during the incident.
“I urge students not to confront robbers or any person bearing arms whenever they are attacked because such a person was no longer normal,” she said.
She went on to say only the living makes use of the valuables as he said no valuable is worth anyone’s life. The robbers were said to have stormed Lucky City Hostel where the deceased reside at Ishieke campus at the university.
The incident occurred at about 1:30am while rain was falling heavily. The armed men gained entry into the fenced hostel. A 200 level student of the university studying political science was a witness. He said they were sleeping when they heard someone knocking at the gate.
Linus, being the president of the hostel, was said to have gone out with a rod to check out who was at the gate.
“The robbers grabbed him and started asking where he kept the money as we suddenly heard gun shots. They entered my room, robbed me of N15,000 and two cell phones and robbed the entire occupants of the hostel; they took the money we contributed for electricity bills.”
