25-year-old woman arrested for killing her 3 days old baby in Nasarawa

A 25-year-old woman, Mwuese Keleve has been arrested by the Police in Nasarawa state. She was arrested for the alleged murder her three-day-old baby in the Kadarko area of Keana local government area of the Nasarawa state.

Police PRO, DSP Idirisu Kennedy, gave the information in an interview with Northern City News on Thursday, August 17 in Lafia.

He said the command received a report on Monday of the corpse of a baby found in a river in the Keana Local Government Area.

Police detectives swang into action immediately and were able to apprehend the suspect on Tuesday who shockingly turned out to be the mother of the dead baby.

DSP Idirisu Kennedy said the suspect has confessed to committing the said crime but yet to give a valid reason for killing the baby. He said that as soon as investigation is concluded by the police, Keleve would be charged to court.

In his words; “Based on the report from the preliminary investigation, the woman is sane and has admitted to committing the crime.”

Keleve's husband, Mr. Fanen Peter, disclosed that he was shocked at the discovery of what his wife did. He further said that they had been married for 15 years with two children and the deceased was their third child.

Chief Fabian Orugu, the Kadoko of Kadarko commended the efforts of residents of the area and the police for their collaboration that made the arrest possible. He condemned Keleve’s action as a devilish act“which cannot be tolerated.”

The monarch promised that the traditional council would ensure that the law took it's course so as to serve as a lesson for others.

The deceased child has since been buried.
