Internet fraudsters allegedly take over Nigeria Police Facebook page to recruit members

- Suspected internet fraudsters have allegedly hijacked the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) Facebook page

- They have reportedly started to use the page to recruit and teach people

According to The Punch, suspected fraudsters have allegedly hacked into the Special Fraud Unit of the NPF to recruit people and advertise their skills.

It was gathered that the suspects demanded between N5,000 and N50,000 from people who wanted to learn from them.

They gave out information and interviews through comment section under a post shared by the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) in other to sensitise the public on how to avoid internet fraud.

The SFU post was tagged, “Common Tricks Yahoo boys use to Swindle Foreigners Revealed.”

In one of the comments, one Thomas Joshua wrote: “If you are interested in G (Yahoo yahoo), message me ASAP (as soon as possible) via +2349021933459. Tutor fee is 5k (N5,000). I will teach you how to make cool money in a week and if you have interest in hacking, wire transfer, ATM card hacking etc., message me ASAP.”

One Steve Emmanuel wrote: “07064229454, to intending members, saying “Hello dear friends, for those that want to be Yahoo boys, here comes your opportunity.”

Facebook users, including students and graduates shared their interest in learning the skills the fraudsters offered in their comments.

User, Desmanking Destiny replied one of the suspected fraudsters and wrote: “100 per cent serious” to learn the skill.”

Ajisafe Adekunle Olowolayemo wrote: “Please, I’m a graduate of Marine Engineering… I have been jobless for good four years. I sought jobs in so many shipping companies, but to no avail. Please, I need a boss who will teach me the rudiments and basis of Yahoo yahoo.”

The Punch confirmed that the comments had reached over 1,762 with 158 shares around 8:17pm on Tuesday, July 11.
