A masquerade in Imo state has allegedly caused the death of a 14-year-old boy who ran in front of a moving car while he was being chased by a masquerade.
It was gathered that the boy was being chased by a masquerade known as Okorodha at Ogbaku, in Owerri west local government area.
According to an eyewitness, the young boy was on his way to school around 9:00am when he sighted the masquerade and took flight.
The eyewitness explained that the masquerade took advantage of the boy’s fear and started chasing him till he ran into a moving car.
It was gathered that the masquerade fled the scene leaving the boy to die on the road a few metres from a police station.
Linus Iwuji, another witness noted that the leaders of the community are to blame for the boy’s death because they allow masquerades to roam freely.
He said: “I blame the community leaders for allowing the masqueraders to walk about chasing people. They and their guides even rob at late hours.”
