Policeman loses temper, strips taxi driver for jumping red traffic light (photos)

A police officer at the Anyaa police station in Accra, Gabriel Tabiri, did the unthinkable on Tuesday when he assaulted and brutalised a taxi driver for allegedly jumping the traffic light.

According to photos seen by Legit.ng the police officer with service number 36832 molested the poor driver, Kwabena Danso, to the extent of stripping him.

Narrating his ordeal to starrfmonline.com, Kwabena said: “Frequent users of that Anyaa stretch of the highway know that particular traffic light is faulty. It is usually on amber or switches to red and within a blink of an eye it turns green then amber then red.”

He further explained how shocked he was that the policeman even after the explanation and corroboration by other drivers who use that route, Tabiri [policeman] still will not hear him out.

“He kept pressing that we should go to the police station and I said he should sit in my car so we go together. However, he refused on the basis that there was someone already in the car. But I told him I can’t walk to the station when there is a vehicle which could make our journey faster and easier.

“This resulted in an altercation and suddenly he held my shirt and began pulling and squeezing me by the neck. I restrained myself because of his uniform, but he went beyond his boundaries when I realised my dress was torn in the process. I was expecting him to give me some level of respect when it was left with my boxer shorts on, but he didn’t and kept stretching that too,” Danso narrated his ordeal.

Kwabena had to buy new clothes from a shop around after some boys around managed to free him from the grips of the policeman.

Meanwhile, the policeman left the scene after the brawl.

This is not the first time a police officer on duty has abused their power and authority. In March 2017, a police man forcibly kissed a lady at a police check point in Dzorwulu, a suburb in Accra late at night.
