My 16-year-old boy was sent to prison for defending himself - Mother cries out (photos)

- A mother of a 16-year-old boy who was sent to prison for attempted murder has cried out

- The boy claimed he was trying to defend himself from an attack when he threw a bottle at the victim

- She called on Nigerians to help secure her son’s release from prison

A mother of a 16-year-old boy who was sent to prison for attempted murder, after he defended himself against an oncoming attack has called on Nigerians to help secure her son’s release.

Facebook user, Prince Gwamnishu Harrison, shared the story on his page after he paid a visit to the boy’s mother.

The woman simply identified as, Mama Habiba, claims her son was trying to defend himself from a colleague who attacked him with a shovel.

She expressed that the colleague identified as, Oboy, had cut her son, Chijindu, with a shovel after they both had a misunderstanding.

Mama Habiba explained that Chijindu took up a bottle and threw it at Oboy when he came at him a second time with the shovel.

The bottle shattered after hitting the shovel and pierced Oboy who was immediately taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

According to Mama Habiba, after her son was arrested she went to the hospital to plead for her son and then she paid for the hospital bills.

She also paid a sum of N4,000 for the upkeep of the victim who went to the police station with his family after he was released from the hospital, to ask the police to release Chijindu.

Chijindu’s mother expressed that the policemen refused to release him and said the boy has been remanded by Okwe magistrates’ court in Asaba for attempted murder.

Legit.ng findings revealed that the tragic incident between Chijindu and his colleague Oboy occurred on Friday, October 28, 2016.

"HOW CHIJINDU WAS SENT TO PRISON AT A VERY YOUNG AGE."

"28th October, 2016 Chijindu had a Misunderstanding with his fellow colleague where he works as a Beach Boy (Those that park Sand inside a Truck)."

"Fight broke out and his colleague used a Shovel and cut him deep at his back. Chijindu seeing that if he doesn't retaliate Oboy may injure him the more. Took a coke bottle to defend himself. Oboy used same shovel and was running towards Chijindu to hit him again (In what looks like self Defence) Chijindu threw the bottle at Oboy. The Bottle hit the Shovel and broke and pieced into Oboy's Body."

"Oboy was rushed to hospital and Chijindu was arrested. Mama Habiba (Chijindu's mother) visited his son at C Division Asaba and was told to go and settle with the complainant. She went to the hospital cleared the hospital bills and pleaded with the family of the boy to please help release her poor son from Police cell. Oboy family agreed and told Mama Habiba to give them money for Oboy's upkeep which she rally round and raised #4000 and Oboy family accepted the money."

"Two days after, Oboy was discharged from Hospital both him and his family and Chijindu's mother went to release Chijindu from Police cell. In what looks like wickedness from the part of the Police officers, Chijindu has been remanded by Okwe Magistrate Court Asaba Charged for Attempted Murder of Oboy. Due to nature of charge, Chijindu is to wait for DPP's Advice."

"Chijindu's mother has her own sad story too. Her husband ran away few years ago from home and she has been struggling to make sure his 7 other children are taking care of."

"Chijindu is currently sleeping with other fellow Awaiting Trial prisoners 140 in a cell with only one toilet system. Imagine his health."

"Recently we have had and seen how Awaiting Trial Prisoners are been Killed in our Nation prison."
