- A young lady was given a Mercedes SL500 sports car for her birthday in 1996
- She lost her car keys shortly after that and refused to drive it afterwards
- The 1996 Mercedes is set to sell for more than N20.7m because its mileage is less than 80 miles
The lucky lady who lost the car keys to her Mercedes revealed how happy she is to have lost it. The red Mercedes was parked in garage in Knightsbridge, Central London, after she drove it for about 75 miles.
NAIJ.com gathered that the lady did not get a replacement set of keys for her car; instead, she chose to park it for twenty years.
Due to this, the 21-year-old car is in a brand new condition and would be sold for as high as N22,825,000 on Wednesday, April 12. The auctioning would done by Coys at the Royal Horticultural Society in London.
Surprisingly, the price is about ten times higher than the price of a normal Mercedes SL500 of the same age.
Chris Routledge, the CEO of Coys said new keys have been made for the car and it comes with a letter from the lady’s butler. This would be a prove of its mileage and provenance.
"This is a car with a fantastic story. Purchased as a birthday present and driven only 80 miles before the owner lost the keys and never drove it again.
"It even comes with a letter written by the owner's butler verifying its mileage and its provenance."
Mr Routledge added:
"Had she not lost the keys and used it regularly, we estimate it would now be worth between £5,000 and £7,000, but the fact that it has kept such a low mileage and has not been driven in more than 20 years makes it worth between £45,000 and £55,000.
"What happened with the keys remains a mystery but the car comes with new keys for the new owner."
