- A mother put bleach on her baby's skin to make him lighter-skinned
- She did it to make her boyfriend think he was his
- The baby had to be taken to the hospital
A 19-year-old South African woman decided to put bleach on her baby’s skin in order to try to make him look lighter-colored. When she had gotten pregnant, her boyfriend, who is whiter than her, had told her he was not sure the baby was his, and that if he was born with dark skin, he would not recognize him as his own.
Tinyiko Mkhesani reportedly delivered the boy at a time when her boyfriend was away working in another region of the country, so she started sending pictures with a filter, so that his skin color would appear light. When he decided to return home, the woman got so nervous at what his reaction would be, that she could not think of something else than to bleach him with the product Movate.
When the baby’s skin alarmingly start peeling off, Mkhesani’s mother forced her to take the him to the hospital. There, she had to admit that she was putting harsh chemicals on the baby. Mkhesani was reported to the police and is now in custody.
