Ogundare who is a building engineer, had reportedly poisoned himself after setting his lover and her secret lover on fire, at the Meiran area of Lagos.

His lover identified as Oriyomi Folarin a.k.a Iya Corner, who is reportedly a divorcee mother of three children, had been operating a beer parlour which was set up for her by Ogundare, in the Agbado area of Ogun state.

According to reports, Ogundare had attacked Iya Corner and her other lover identified as Akinade Omole, aka Currency, at the beer parlour on Sunday, January 22, and doused them with petrol, and set them both on fire.

Ogundare reportedly fled the scene of the incident after discovering that the fire had spread to his hand. He was said to have poisoned himself on hearing that Iya Corner and Currency had died at the hospital where good Samaritans had rushed them to.

According to one of Iya Corner's neighbours identified as Femi, Ogundare had followed Currency from a petrol station where he had seen him park his jeep, to the beer parlour where he carried out his wicked act.

Femi said:

“The engineer bought fuel in a jerrycan and headed for Iya Corner’s shop. I never thought he had any sinister motive. On getting there, he met Iya Corner and Currency chatting as Currency ate eba.

He poured the fuel on them and set them ablaze. The fire caught him in the hand but he escaped. By the time people assisted Iya Corner and Currency to put out the fire, they had suffered serious burns. Currency’s private parts were affected. They died on Monday.

Another eyewitness who gave his name as Jacob Oyedeji, said he had heard people calling for help just as he was about to go to bed:

I rushed out to know what happened only to see Currency and Iya Corner engulfed in flames. Policemen from the Meiran division came that evening. It was the following day that they were declared dead.

Yusuf Ajibola, another neighbour, said Iya Corner and Ogundare had been dating for several years until Ogundare could no longer meet her financial needs in 2016:

That was when Iya Corner started dating Currency. The engineer knew Currency and Iya Corner were in a relationship. He warned the woman to back out or be ready to forfeit the shop he opened for her, but she refused.

During the Yuletide, Engineer went to the shop and disrupted it. Currency and the woman got him arrested and he was detained by the police. He felt humiliated because he had spent a lot of money on the woman.

One of the shop owners in the area said Currency was supposed to be made a chief in his village in Oyo state in the coming weeks. He said:

The two men are married with children. The engineer built a house in the Obadeyi area and three of his children are graduates. I was surprised that he conducted himself in such a manner. The woman’s first child has three children and one of them, Wunmi, recently graduated. She narrowly escaped being consumed by the fire that evening.

I learnt yesterday (Tuesday) that the engineer took poison and he died. However, a friend just told me today that he was still alive but in a critical condition at a hospital.

Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, and a manhunt has been launched, to find Ogundare.
